Interesting Conversation

Welp...It was bound to happen wasn't it? We live in a world of bloggers now. So, it shouldn't much of a surprise that a mindless ranter, such as myself would find his way over here. I'll have to leave a formal introduction for a later date, though. I think it'd be much more "fun" if i just hit you with an interesting conversation i had today my friend Ana. We were talking about wanting to find a new book to read..So, she mentioned a book that her friend has her reading now...

Ana : i need to find my book
Ana : justin has me reading Everything You Know Is Wrong
Ana : so i put my other book down
ME : what, it basically contradicts everything that people generally accept as fact? is that it?
ME : wat topics does it touch?
ME : more than just politics i hope...
Ana : just about everything
Ana : i mean, you have to have an open mind for this book
ME : im curious
Ana : cus if you believe everything you hear then you're gonna hate it
ME : lol well clearly its perfect me lmao
Ana : like i honestly can say i don't believe everything they taught me in school
Ana : i contradicted a lot of it
Ana : i did and still do my own research on everything i learn
ME : well thats because "truth" and "fact" and "right" isnt always "correct" ...all that is...is simply what is widely accepted...what you were raised thinking...so..yeeeah...thats why i have such a big beef with organized religion and whatnot...but i'll spare u that...same thing with history too lol...anyway...who's the author of that book...i'lll pick that one up at barnes n noble
Ana : but i mean the book is a collection of nonconformist articles but it kinda attempts to tie them all together under the theme of media manipulation and conspiracies made by corporate and whatever
Ana : i was reading an article called "The Whole Truth About Domestic Violence"
Ana : it proves more men are abused than women.
Ana : or "Some Lessons from the Underground History of American Education" which exposes the real ideology of public schools. like conformity and indoctrination instead of critical thinking
Ana : lol i wrote a review about this years ago lol.
ME : lmao...im loving it
Ana : i'm serious. me and my brother
ME : and i bet each one of these articles ppl tried to hush up...but...there's that freedome of speech and press...love it
Ana : oh please. that's garbage
ME : meaning?
Ana : freedom of speech?
Ana : please.
ME : lol..i know what u said...i just meant for u to elaborate more on it...i wanna see where you take it
Ana : everyone talks so much about they have the freedom of speech and yeah, in a sense that's true but at the same time it's not. because if that were true ppl wouldn't be trying so hard to get books banned because of what someone said. over the years its like the years, the Supreme Court has put certain limitations on freedom of speech, mostly pertaining to issues where the speech endangers someone else...
ME : hmm...i guess you support the theory that you're basically free to say watever you want within the "accepted guidelines" lmao
ME : well thats because...its one thing to be free to say wat you want...but u cannot be reckless with it
Ana : freedom is a fuckin illusion that seems to be thrown around as a way to excite ppl
Ana : i understand that
ME : its almost like screaming "fire" in a friggin theater
ME : of course they DO take it too far with the limitation in some cases....especially when someone says something that conflicts with very sensitive conservative views and whatnot...i get that
ME : but yea
Ana : i mean, you CANNOT allow certain "free speech" to advance for one peoples, while decrying the "free speech" that may be offensive. the better route would be to prove those outrageous comments to be folly. most people who make outrageous comments laced in racism, sexism, ageism, classism etc.,
Ana : do so with such ineloquence that anyone taking them seriously seems to be no intellectual threat.
Ana : instead, this nation has used the Supreme Court in efforts to have one side granted more free speech(and many other constitutional grants)than those they may feel can't be proven wrong. OR, maybe they CAN, but it's too much like work! It's like being a smart-ass. talk shit to the wrong guy, and he'll beat your ass! so, you recourse by getting your big brother to beat THEIR ass. doesn't make what YOU did right, and goes further to justify YOUR ass-whooping to begin with. in MY eyes at least!
Ana : lol
ME : nah you're absolutely right
ME : but do you understand the reason for why they do this right?
Ana : i know why
Ana : i want you to tell me though
ME : well?
Ana : see where your head is
ME : lmao
ME : i hope its not in my ass
Ana : shut up and explain
ME : but the reason i can think of (im giving them the benefit of the doubt mind you) is simply to avoid the whole going back and forth in arguing and debating on subjects. if you allow too many people to introduce controversial ideas to the public. it would divide a nation. and the last thing they would want is to have the nation split in two over conflicting ideas.
ME : they learned their lesson in the civil war
ME : and although we would like to think that we've grown more "mature" since then. its really not true
ME : and ultimately thats where this country would go....
ME : i mean thats what i think...if i were in power, that would probably be my reason for taking that course of action
ME : i think you would agree that most people cant handle HEATED debates
ME : so..yeah..
Ana : i understand completely
ME : so what were you going to say?
Ana : when?
ME : but do you understand the reason for why they do this right?
Ana : i know why
Ana : i want you to tell me though
ME : i thought u were going to say what you thought their reasons were
Ana : oh no boo. we're on the same page with that statement
ME : ohhh ok
ME : i know most people probably think that its the government's "diaoblical scheme" to belittle people and whatnot...n it sure as hell seems that way at times

it was interesting having this kind of conversation with her...i think it was our first time talking like this...it was funny because part of me felt like i was being tested by her or something...lol its nice when you find someone that keeps you on your toes though :-P

Peace n luv
